DIPHU, Feb 14: In a latest development, the Karbi Students’ Association (KSA), UKAWA and KAWJF have expressed great disappointment and controversy evoked among many activists saying that Karbi Anglong should not invite someone who supports CAA.
Questioning the invitation to him for the event, the student’s organization lashed out at KAAC leaders for inviting the person responsible for introducing Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and imposition of Assamese language on the hill tribes. This was stated in a press note jointly signed by KSA president Simeon Rongphar, UKAWA president Molina Ingtipi and KAWJF president Beulet Beypi here in Diphu today.
In its press note, the organizations stated that the decision to invite Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at the 46th Karbi Youth Festival, 2020 is extremely unfortunate for the entire Karbis.
They stated that Karbi Cultural Society (KCS) was formed with the sole objective of preserving, protecting and promoting the rich culture, tradition, language, clothing and the identity of Karbis.
“The Karbi Youth Festival, which is one of the oldest ethnic festivals of the NE-India, has been organized every year successfully with the immense sacrifice and participation of all Karbi people,” reminded the organizations.
The three organizations concluded its press statement urging upon the leaders to keep Karbi Youth Festival far away from any politics in the days to come.
