DIPHU, Feb 11: With the aim of maintaining greenery and clean environment in all places of the town, a tree planting programme was organized by Clean & Green Society at Karbi Peoples’ Hall (KPH), Taralangso area here on Tuesday.
MAC and Forest Board chairman Richard Tokbi who was invited in the tree plantation programme as chief guest, inaugurated the programme, He was accompanied by Karbi Cultural Society (KCS) president Chandra Sing Kro, New Hope English School principal Jemson Kro, Ward No. 10 commissioner Lunse Timung, OSD Ranjan Baruah, several office bearers of KCS and others.
Huge numbers of students of New Hope English School took part in the mass tree plantation programme which commenced from APDCL power station area till the KPH area in Taralangso.
While speaking at the event, MAC Richard Tokbi reminded students that trees are source of oxygen which is the life of all living beings and therefore, it is central to its existence and survival. He also urged upon students and youths to plant more trees, nurture and protect all trees around them.
Meanwhile, KCS president Chandrasing Kro during his speech said that merely planting trees is not adequate stating that all citizens and youths should join hands to protect it from wild animals and nurture them. He also lauded the organizer for taking up such noble activities and urged them to continue doing good work in the days ahead.
