HAFLONG, Jan 23: The birth anniversary of a nationalist and revolutionary freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was observed at Haflong on Thursday.
The great leader was commemorated by the small hills district with a public rally from Circuit House to main Haflong Town. The event was organised by the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Birth Anniversary Celebration Committee, Dima Hasao.
The rally was followed by a gathering at Cultural Institute Hall, Haflong. The programme was graced by MLA B.B Hagjer as chief guest along with NCHAC EM Nandita Gorlosa as guest of honour. The function started with a floral tribute to the portrait of Netaji by the chief guest followed by unfurling of the National Flag.
While addressing the gathering, chief guest B.B Hagjer spoke about the great deeds of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and his contributions in making India free from the clutch of the British. He also briefed about the formation of INA at Japan and how they fought against the British with the slogan “Delhi Chalo”.
During the occasion, students of St. Agnes School displayed a pipe band to tribute Netaji. The programme was attended by students, senior citizens and the public as a whole. Members of the celebration committee also distributed fruits to in-patients of Haflong Civil Hospital. Earlier on Sunday, a drawing competition was also held among the students to mark the occasion.
