Haripal Rawat holds meeting with Congress leaders in Diphu

DIPHU, Jan 12: All India Congress Committee joint secretary in charge of Assam Haripal Rawat reached Diphu and held meeting with party leaders and members today.

The meeting was held at Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee office which was attended by president Khorsing Ingti, vice president Raton Ingti and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) spokesperson Mongve Rongpi among others. During the meeting 216 members who quit the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party were given warm welcome and inducted into the party.

While speaking to media persons after the meeting, Rawat said that they would repeal the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019, (CAA) if they are voted to power in the next assembly election.

Later during a media conference, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) ex-EM Raton Engti attacked the BJP over several issues including failure to curb price hike of essential commodities, economy and the major unemployment problem that has hit the country now. This government is inefficient and anti-people. He said that elected representative at the Council should step down.

APCC spokesman Dr. Mongve Rongpi during his address also charged that the claims that the Sixth Schedule are would not be affected by CAA is a blatant lie. He said that the statements of BJP leaders are self-contradictory which indicate that they are confusing the masses with their policies and decisions. He also said that the saffron party’s agenda and policies are divisive and therefore, they party should be defeated by voting for the Congress party in the next election.
