KAMSA accuses OC of demanding 1 lakh per month

DIPHU, Jan 10: Karbi Anglong Sand Mahaldar & Supplier Association has vehemently condemned the beating up of its four members by Manja Police OC Jitumoni Deka and has stated that it will not tolerate any illegal action by anyone. This was stated in a press conference convened by the association at its office in Manja here today.

While vehemently condemning the police officer, the association said that incident took place on Thursday when Manja police station OC went to their office and thrashed four of their members without any explanation or warning. The association said that they will not tolerate any of this goon-like rambunctious conduct and has therefore, called for 3-days shutdown of its business activities to show their protest over the incident. The association also made serious charge that OC Deka had demanded Rs. 1 lakh per month from Karbi Anglong Sand Mahaldar & Supplier Association.

KAMSA president Kangjang Terang said that they are supplying sand as per the rate fixed by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and all their business are being conducted as per government guidelines. The association also informed that only 400 cft sand is permitted to be transported with 6-wheelers truck for which notification has also been issued.

The association stated that their members were beaten up by the OC after the police were informed they would not pay any amount of money to the Police since they are supplying sand as per the rate fixed by authority.

Later in the day, Manja Police Station OC Jitumoni Deka denied any wrongdoing and stated that they were beaten up after he went to their office on receiving information that the Karbi Anglong Sand Mahaldar & Supplier Association has been demanding Rs 2,000 from each truck transporting sand from the district.
