DIPHU, Dec 05: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Diphu on Thursday observed World Soil Day at its campus with the theme of the year “Stop erosion, save our Future”. The day is observed throughout the world to create awareness on efficient management of soil resources for sustainable crop production.
The programmee was attended by Dr. Subal Maibangsa, head, KVA, Dr.R. Baruah soil scientist RARS,Diphu.
Dr. Subal Maibangsa in his welcome address highlighted on the importance of fertile soil for human beings and emphasized on application of nutrients in an integrated and balanced quantities. He also stressed on adopting various resource conservation technologies for sustainable production and makes soil erosion proof.
Dr. A Roy chief scientist, RARS Diphu, advocated the importance of soil testing and asked everyone to take advantage of Soil Health Card Scheme of Government of India being implemented by KVK in the district.
Later, a farmer-scientist interaction session was conducted as part of the celebration on “sustainable Soil health and Environment”.
Subject matter specialists of KVK Mr. Sandip Bhuyan, Nilim Kalita, Dr. Lohit Kakoty, Saurabh Datta and Prakshipta Baruah participated in the interaction session and discussed various challenges being face by the farmers.
The event registered the participation by a total of 100 farmers along with officials from NRLM and NGOs where soil Health Cards was also distributed.
