Orgs stage demonstration for 100% job reservation


Demands review of appointment process

DIPHU, Dec 02: An indefinite sit-in demonstration over jobs in Diphu Medical College was held in front of the Semson Sing Ingti Memorial National Park in Diphu here today. The demonstration programme was organized by organizations of the district in demand of 100 % job for local people of the district in Diphu Medical College and Research Institute.

Leaders of the Ex-UPDS Welfare Society, KLNLF leaders, Karbi Students & Youth Council (KSYC), AIKSU and members of other organizations were present at the demonstration programme.

Karbi Students Association (KSA) president Bijoy Bey while speaking at the protest said that the authority had not only failed to appoint local people but said that it is a signals the gradual control and surrender of the powers of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC). The KSA president also urged upon the government for review of the selection processes and 100% reservation of jobs for local youths in the Diphu Medical College and Research Institute. He also urged upon the local people and specially the youths to leave their comfort zone and come out to fight for their rights and support their protest in the greater interest of the local people of the district.

The protestors chanted 100% percent job reservation and expressed their immense displeasure against the Bharatiya Janata Party over sudden notice to shift interview venue.

At around 2:00 pm the protestors including KSA president Bijoy Bey, general secretary Thangsing Timung, KSYC president Prakash Terang, general secretary Bipul Tisso, Marlove Timung and several other leaders and members have been taken into custody by the District Administration. The indefinite protest was again resumed in the evening following their released and was still underway at the time of compiling this report.
