ASDC Demands ILP in Hill Districts

DIPHU, Nov 29: Regional party Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) continued its strong opposition on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 and introduction of the Panchayati Raj and has demanded introduction of Inner Line Permit in the hill districts. This was stated in a press statement issued by party publicity secretary Daniel Teron here today.

In its press statement, the regional party said, “Since the BJP Central Government has chosen not to extend invitation to the Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) to have a discussion despite spearheading a movement to oppose the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill, the party has given the following demands to be implemented in the interest of the hill tribals of Karbi Anglong and North Cachar Hills like Karbi, Dimasa, Rengma, Tiwa etc (a) to withdraw the proposed Citizenship Amendment Bill (b) to keep Karbi Anglong and North Cachar Hills outside the purview of the Citizenship Amendment Bill if introduce and pass in Parliament (c) to introduce Inner Line Permit System as per Eastern Bengal Frontier Act and Chin Hills Regulation of the British period.”

Further, the regional party demanded that the BJP ruled Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council not to go ahead with the introduction of the Panchayati Raj in the name of bringing a bill for creation of village council but instead should bring a bill for direct funding to the Autonomous Council and also direct access to Planning Commission of India (NITIAYOG).

“The Autonomous State Demand Committee has also demanded that the law and order enforcing agency of the government from that of the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police should be place under the Administrative Control of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council,” concluded the press statement.
