Indian Army Distributes Solar lanterns Mongbung Villagers


DIPHU, Nov 20: Continuing with noble efforts to bring civilians and army closer, the Red Horns Division of the Indian army distributed 40 units of solar lanterns to the poor families of Mongbung village inside east Karbi Anglong district here today.

Informing this, army said that Mongbung is highly under developed and neglected area with no electricity. “Ongoing insurgency over the years has further worsened the economic infrastructure in the region. In keeping with its selfless tradition of providing assistance to the needy, 40 Solar lanterns were distributed among the deliberately selected villagers keeping their economic condition in mind so that the help reaches the deserving,” said the army.

The solar lanterns were distributed to the poor families under Operation Sadbhavna during a small ceremony which was attended by huge number of villagers and civil administration officials. “More than 70 villagers and seven block officials were present on the occasion,” said the army.

Further, the army informed that the local people of the area gave them a warm welcome and also conveyed their gratitude and acknowledged the role of army in the effort of establishing peace in the region. The civil administration and locals equivocally lauded the efforts made by Army in fulfilling the aspirations of these backward villages.

Meanwhile, village headman also lauded the army for this noble gesture stating that such initiatives are very encouraging for the poor villagers and affirmed that every villager stands shoulder to shoulder with Indian Army in ensuring insurgent free environment in the region.
