MP expresses hope of fulfillment, says possible under Modi
DIPHU, Nov 05: The 235th Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) session was held today in which an important resolution on Article 244 (A) was adopted.
During his speech, CEM Tuliram said that the provisions of the Sixth Schedule amended so far since signing the MoU with Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) till the Memorandum of Settlement with United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) are no longer sufficient to protect and fulfill the aspiration of the people. Therefore, the KAAC recommend to the State and Centre for immediate implementation of Article 244 (A) of the Constitution and ask both the government to create an autonomous state comprising of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao district without any further delay.
On the resolution, MP Horen Sing Bey said that since people have elected him it is his duty to raise the issues of the people in Parliament and that he has also approached other MPs from othe states of northeast India. He expressed his hope on Article 244 (A) issue saying, “Modi hain toh mumkin hain (Possible under Modi),”
Langpher MAC Ramsing Timung also expressed his hope that the political demand for implementation of Article 244 (A) of the Constitution would be fulfilled within 5 years under leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government.
Kopili MAC Pawan Kumar reminded that even the demand for Article 244 (A) has been a long pending movement of the hill districts, including arms struggles, there is a greater need of deep analysis the issue to be able to remove the technical that create hurdles in its implementation. He said that there is no ambitious stand on the issue. Without naming any party, he said there is a need to take initiative to remove the misunderstanding created by some groups on the issue so that no one can create any division on it. He also emphasized that he has always and will continue to support the resolution on Article 244 (A) since the past along with continued development in all aspect of life in the hill districts of Assam.
Earlier in the session, KAAC chief Tuliram Ronghang informed the executive committee has passed the order to cancel the appointment of 150 persons under the Forest Department as they have all been appointed without the approval of the KAAC and without any advertisement and fresh appointment would be made with all due process.
CEM Ronghang also stated that the Council has received Rs. 10 crore for Greater Diphu Water Supply Scheme under Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) and another Rs. 16 crore has not been sanctioned by the Centre and the work would only commenced as soon as the total fund is received by KAAC.
