Awareness Programme for Social Development Held in Umswai


DIPHU, Nov 04: An awareness programme on social development was held to mark the 37th birth anniversary of Jirlong Hemtun at Langorkhon and Maitkramsa villages, Umswai in West Karbi Anglong on November 3.

Inspector of Sericulture Department Longki Timung, ex-president of GGKSA Dharamsing Ronghang and principal of Sardokpo Ronghang Memorial Academy,Jengkha Mahesh Ronghang graced the event as resource persons.

During his session, Longki Timung instructed the villagers on silkworm rearing and also told them about the profit attained from selling it. He told them that rearing silkworms is very beneficial if people put their heart and soul in it.

On the other hand, Dharamsing Ronghang spoke about tourism and urged the people of the village to make Umswai a place of tourists’ paradise. He told them to spread awareness on the matter to the public since the region is full of naturally beautiful locations. Meanwhile, Mahesh Ronghang spoke about uplifting the younger generations in the field of education.

The event was attended by a host of students’ leaders and other dignitaries who include ex president of Nagaon Karbi Students’ Association Avijit Kro, NKSA president Sarkangthim Taro ,Karbi Students Boys’ Hostel monitor Linson Ronghang, pharmacist Emanual Rongphar, Suniram Engti, gold medallist in Karate , Mongolsing Bey, M. Phil ( Research Scholar)and others. Many villagers participated in the programme.
