Denizens urge students’ body for probe in PMAYG scheme

TUMPRENG, Nov 3: Seeing that some of the PMAY housing schemes are not up to the expected level, concerned citizens of Tumpreng and its adjoining areas urged the Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) and other students’ bodies to oversee and check the situation for the benefit of helpless and illiterate citizens in rural areas.

Claiming that many beneficiaries are illiterate and don’t even know to check the ID of the house sanctioned to them, the public claimed that some of the beneficiaries whose names are on the list were denied of the facility.

“We saw that some of the beneficiaries who are illiterate were told that their names are not included in the list. They were easily fooled because they are illiterate and didn’t know to check their ID numbers. It is very heartbreaking to see the rich taking advantage of the poor and illiterate beneficiaries. This should not happen in the society,” the public stated.

The public also stated that BPL ID code list is available in every Block office and urged the students’ body to go and check the list so that the beneficiaries who deserve the scheme will get it accordingly.

“We know that the government has released crores of rupees for the said scheme. However, the number of PMAY G scheme in West Karbi Anglong is quite disappointing. Apart from that, there are many incomplete houses in different parts of the district,” the public stated.

The citizens also urged the students’ body to conduct inspection and help the poor and the needy.
