KSA Demands Extension of Voter Verification Dateline


DIPHU, Oct 04: Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) has demanded extension of date of verification for voter identification. This was demanded through a press statement issued through its assistant general secretary Endarson Kro here today.

The students’ organization expressed fear that the October 15, 2019 dateline be extended as many Karbis are likely to be left out stating that apart from correction of existing list, new family members have to be included. The organization also pointed out that they do not have confidence that all BLOs would be able to visit all household for verification before the current dateline set by the state government.

In addition to this, KSA reminded that majority of the areas in Karbi Anglong do not have access to basic services and infrastructure like internet and are forced to shell out money ranging from Rs. 20 to Rs. 100 towards people who can do through private channels.

The students’ organization concluded its press statement urging the state election commission to issue strict direction for door to door visit for verification by BLOs and extend the dateline in the greater interest of all people.
