BIRSINGKI, Oct 3: Several organisations which include KSA, KSU, ATSU and KSYC jointly held a protest rally cum memorandum submission at Ulukunchi, West Karbi Anglong on Thursday demanding immediate withdrawal of 3 nominated MACs into KAAC.
The organisations submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Assam Jagadish Mukhi through Block Development Officer, Amri Development Block.
The agitated students strongly criticised CEM Tuliram Ronghang for taking one sided decision, after knowing the fact that it is against the Sixth Schedule.
The rally was attended by a large number of students and citizens of Amri.
Condemning the CEM for nominating three non ST members, the organisations also demanded for immediate removal of the three MACs inducted in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) but instead nominate unrepresented ST-MACs.
It could be mentioned that, the three nominated members who include Ajit Kumar Dey, Papuram Kisku and Chandra Bahadur Chetri have been included as nominated MACs into KAAC last week.
“The nomination of non-tribals as MACs is injustice to the tribal people of the hills district. If the non-tribals continue to exploit the tribals through politics and other ways, the provision of Sixth Schedule to the Constitution will be meaningless,” the students said.
