Extempore speech on Karbi language held

DIPHU, Sept 29: A competition on extempore speech in Karbi language was held at Karbi Students’ Boys’ Hostel, Ambikagiri Nagar, Guwahati on Sunday.

Aimed at promoting Karbi language, the winners are determined in such a way that the speech should be spoken purely in Karbi. The competition is conducted after many youths realised that they way they speak their own language have become very polluted and most Karbis ended up adding a blend of other languages like Assamese, English, Hindi etc while speaking among themselves.

Fearing that the language will disappear into thin air, the youths took the initiative and conducted the competition as part of bringing awareness among the younger generations. The event was spearheaded by Karbi Boys’ Hostel monitor Linson Ronghang, ex-president of GGKSA Dharam Sing Ronghang and others.

First prize of the competition was bagged by Hasting Teron, second prize was awarded to Sarkorim Millik and third prize was awarded to Jari Hanse. Linson Ronghang, Dharam Sing Ronghang, Motier Bey and Sarmukrang Bey were judges of the competition.
