NRC should be based on 1971 dateline
DIPHU, Sept 13: Hills Party Committee (HPC), a wing of the Communist Party of India (ML) based in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts, have expressed over the final NRC draft published in August 31, 2019 pointing out huge numbers of indigenous people of Karbi Anglong. This was stated in a press statement issued through its office secretary Gobin Tokbi here on Thursday.
The party demanded the government for enquiry into the matter and also sought the support and cooperation of all citizens for the process to re-verification, register and inclusion of names of people who were left out in final list published on August 31, 2019. HOC (CPIML) asserted that be based as per the 1971 dateline and amended as per Assam Accord.
The part has also condemned the BJP Government over the abrogation of Article 370 removing special status to Jammu & Kashmir and its bifurcation and pointing out that the same may happen to Article 244 (A) of the Constitution of India.
The party also demanded release of four months’ salary of various departments under the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) who, it charged, is surrendering its power to the state government.
The party also demanded the KAAC to protect the Sixth Schedule and also press for implementation of Article 244 (A) of the Constitution of India. The party concluded its press statement with a strong warning of stern movement if the present Council leaders do fulfill their promises.
