DIPHU/BOKAJAN, Sept 08: An awareness campaign on customary law and empowerment of villages chief was at Hangjanglangso was organized by Karbi Anglong Rong Asar Amei (KARA) today. APHLC president JI Kathar attended as chief guest an village headman and senior citizens the area.
While addressing the gathering Kathar mainly focused on the theme pointing out that customary law is the backbone of the Sixth Schedule which would fail if it is not fully implemented. He urged upon KARAA to strengthen the Sixth Schedule and customary law by holding more of such programmes in other areas as well. He also emphasized that the villages chiefs or KARAA should be well trained on customary laws as customary law courts are still alive in the Karbi Anglong District in the administration of justice among the masses.
