2nd Karbi social freshers held in Bokakhat

DOLAMARA, Sept 07: The much awaited 2nd Karbi Freshers cum Social Meet of Bokakhat was held at Bokakhat Natya Mandir today. The annual and colourful event was graced, as chief guest, by ex-EM and Jambili Literary Foundation chairman Surjya Rongphar, and other including Duarbagori VDC chairman Sarkoi Rongphar, ex-VDC chairman Sonaram Singnar, Harlongbi Velongbi College principal Yunali Ronghangpi, young poet On Teron, Keshav Timung, Duarbagori KCS secretary Robinson Rongphar, JDSG College Assamese dept professor Krishna Rongpi, professor Mintu Tokbi (JDSG College) and students leaders from Jorhat, Golaghat, Tezpur, Lumding, ASSU Bokakhat regional unit among others.

The event commenced with paying of tribute to Ru Semson Sing Ingti, the founder of Karbi Anglong at 9 am which was led by Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) Bokakhat unit secretary Sarkleng Engti. This was immediately followed by warm welcoming of ex-EM and Jambili Literary Foundation chairman Surjya Rongphar along with other guest invited at the event. A welcome song was presented by students of Bokakhat College unit, and felicitation of freshers was led by Atur Tissopi. The whole day long program was led by Waisong Bey and Gloria Rongpipi. Early in the programme Jansing Rongpi entertained the crowds with his English songs, while Karbi Anglong Singing Star Runners-Up Omphu Tokbipi were also felicitated and presented her song. The freshers who were given warm welcome gave self introduction and shared their goals and aspiration among others.

During his speech at the event, Duarbagori VDC chairman Sarkoi Rongphar stated that students have much to do for the society and he assured to students to provide assistance towards a better and bigger freshers for the next year.

While Harlongbi Velongbi College principal Yunali Ronghangpi in her speech stated that students have to utilize the knowledge gained from education. She also highlighted that many youths drop out of college due to early marriage pointing out that education is the agent of bringing change in personal and society as well.

While addressing the gathering as chief guest Surjya Rongphar mentioned that majority of  Karbi students are from very poor background and therefore pursuing education is still a big challege. He stressed that while pursuing education, the youths should also have responsibility towards strengthening statehood movement, preservation and promotion of Karbi language and identity, including tradtional attire, traditional and folk dances. He also lauded the Bokakhat KSA for Nimso Kerung dance presented at the event. He also urged upon the students to also focus on the need of technical experts and specialized skills and knowledge including ANM and GNM among others.

He concluded his speech urging all students including seniors and freshers to uphold the identity and dignity of Karbis and to stay rooted while pursuing education and bring honour towards the whole society and tribe.
