DIPHU, Aug 25: Asom Gorkha Sammelan (AGS) and All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union Karbi Anglong District Committee jointly observed the 75th Balidan Divash in commemoration of martyr Major Durga Mallah at Diphu club Today.
The event was attended by several army, and ex-servicemen who wholeheartedly donated blood to make event glorifying in name of martyrdom. Remembering his prime sacrifice for freedom movement, the organizers said India will always remember his valour, courage, devotion and sacrifice which he set an example to fellow country.
It may be mentioned that, Major Durga Mallah was born on July 1, 1913, in Dehradun, who was clever and brilliant from his childhood. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and other freedom fighters, he joined Gorkha Rifles at the age of 18 years. When Indian National Army (INA) was formed under the leadership of Subhash Chandra Bose, Durga Malla left the British Army and joined the INA. Late Durga Malla was captured by the British at Ukhrul in Manipur on March 27, 1944, and hanged on August 25, 1944.
