Human-Elephant Conflict Claims the Life of 65-Year-Old Man


DILLAI, Aug 11: In a tragic incident, a 65-year old man was killed by wild elephant inside Lahorijan area under the Dillai Police Station on Saturday.

The tragic incident took place at around 5:00 pm in Langtuk Kramsa village when the elderly man was returning back home from work. The victim’s body was discovered at a sesame field by villagers who went in search of him after his wife told them that he has not returned home. The deceased was identified as Longki Lekthe.

“My father left home in the afternoon towards to work in our sesame field,” the victim’s son said.

He also stated that this is the first case of death caused by wild elephant under their area.

Meanwhile, local residents and other villagers of the adjoining area have expressed their concern over the rise of human casualty and damage of homes and properties across the district caused by wild elephants, pointing out that few undesired incident may have occurred because of flood and shrinking food sources in the forest.

The dead body of the victim has been retrieved by Dillai Police and officials of Forest Department and has been sent for post mortem.
