DIPHU, July 26
The elephant which was killed by train at Neilalung Garo village under the Central Range have been sent for post mortem.
As per report conveyed to ACF Pranab Terang by Neilalung Beat Officer, staff members of the forest department have visited the spot for investigation during which statements of local residents have been recorded. A veterinary doctor have also been called for post mortem immediately on finding injuries and marks sustained reportedly caused by moving train. Officials said that further action on the matter will be taken once the final post mortem report is out. In addition to this, elephant tusk weighing 2 kg approximately have also been recovered and taken into the custody of the forest department.
ACF Terang told reporters that the elephant was killed by moving train on July 13 night but its report could not be immediately collected as he was out of town for other work.
