Police Busted Fake Currencies Racket


HAFLONG, April 23: Acting on specific information on circulation of fake currencies in Karbi Anglong, Karbi Anglong Police under the supervision of SDPO Bokajan Padma Pegu arrested 4 people including a woman at Bokajan today.

Speaking to this correspondent, Padma Pegu said that a joint team of Bokajan Police and Khatkhati Police launched a search operation in Khatkhati area. On Tuesday afternoon the joint team who were keeping surveillance on two suspects arrested James Goyary and Akhumla Yimchunger (female) from Darugabagan area under Bokajan Sub-Division.

The team recovered 8 lakhs fake currencies which include 4 lakhs in 500 notes, Rs 2 lakhs in 200 notes, Rs. 1 lakh in 100 Notes 1 lakh and Rs 1 lakh in 50 notes. The team also recovered a scooty bearing registration no NL 07 R 9496 from their possession.

During interrogation, the duo revealed that there are two more persons in their business. As per interrogation report, Police apprehended Mohammad Abdul Manik and Mohammad Taj Uddin from Bokajan area while they were trying to flee to Khatkhati.

While searching the rented house of James Goyary, police recovered Rs. 216350 fake currencies along with scanner machine, computer set, lamination machine, Xerox machine, five mobiles phones and some chemicals or colors (which are yet to be verified by Police) used for printing fake currencies.
