Armed miscreants apprehended in Dima Hasao

HAFLONG, Mar 13: The Dima Hasao Police on Tuesday night apprehended three armed miscreants from New Harangajao area under Harangajao Police Station, 35 km away from Haflong town.

Polices source informed that arrest was made after receiving specific information on movement of armed miscreants in Harangajao on Tuesday following which a team led by DSP HQ S.K Morang, along with O/c Harangajao PS and Assam Police Ranger Group was immediately dispatched to launch an operation in New Harangajao at 8 pm the same night.

The operation team surrounded the house where the suspected miscreants had taken shelter. Initially the miscreants rejected the police call for surrender but was later forced to surrender after police fired rounds as warning to the miscreants, police source said.

The miscreants who were all apprehended were identified as Ngamboi Chongloi (24), resident of Atibung, Peren District in Nagaland and Mangneo Lhouvum (23), resident of Motbung, Kangpokpi district in Manipur. The team also apprehended one Seimang Lhoujem (34), native of Harangajao who escaped from backdoor taking advantage of dark but fell into a ditch and injuring himself after running for few meters. The police recovered one factory made pistol along with three 7.65mm live ammunition from their possession. Later the trio was brought to Haflong PS for interrogation.

On preliminary investigation Ngamboi Chongloi alias Boi and Henlienmang Lhouvum alias Mangneo were found to be cadres of surrendered United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA) of SK Thadou faction who came to Dima Hasao to settle a long time dispute with a person stated to be a UTLA cadre of different faction.

“The duo reached here after receiving information on presence of the target by Seimang Lhoujem, a known trouble maker in Harangajao area and with the police. The trio will be remanded for five more days for further interrogation/investigation.” said SP Sreejith T.
