International Women’s Day Celebrated in Diphu


DIPHU, Mar 08: People in different parts of the country have been celebrating International Women’s Day in their respective ways. In Karbi Anglong, the day was celebrated with cultural functions in some places while women organization like KNCA took to the streets shouting slogans with an aim to spread message of women empowerment.

The BJP Mahila Morcha, Karbi Anglong District Committee celebrated the day amid much gaiety and valor at Joysing Doloi auditorium, Diphu.

KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang attended the event as chief guest. While addressing the gathering, CEM declared that he will construct Women’s Hostel with a financial estimate of Rs. 1 crore at Diphu. Besides, he also stated he is very much keen to support if women quota rises to 50% from the present 33% for women in every field. He also spoke about the importance of women in the society and encouraged them to be strong and fight for themselves.

Women who won medals at the recently concluded Masters’ Games held at Dehradun in Uttarakhand who include CEM’s wife Kache Teronpi, Pokhila Engtipi, Nirmali Terangpi and Samphri Terangpi were also felicitated in today’s programme.

Several KAAC leaders who include EMs Kache Rongpipi, Amarsing Tisso, Roton Teron, MACs Darsing Ronghang and Richard Tokbi attended the programme as guests. Hundreds of women from different walks of life attended the event.

International Women’s Day was also celebrated at both KNCA offices amid much valor and enthusiasm. Both the women organizations discussed about women empowerment and to take women to a better platform. They also took to the streets to spread the message on women empowerment and equality.

Mention can be made that International Women’s Day has celebrated the economic, political, cultural and social achievements of women for more than 100 years. The event was a result of the struggles fought by women of the early 20th century against oppression and gender inequality.
