DIPHU, Feb 16: Karbi Adorbar (KRA), one of the oldest social organizations in Karbi Anglong observed its 74th Foundation Day at Karbi Riso Adorbar office premises, KST Road, Diphu on Saturday.

The programme began with hoisting of flag by its president Ajit Timung followed by homage to founder members.

Timung in his speech explained that the Karbi Adorbar was established way back on February 16, 1946 at Hawaipur under Amreng MAC Constituency and Late Sarsing Teron and Ru Semson Sing Ingti as president and general secretary of the organization. Later, Ru Semson Sing Ingti through this platform served the Karbi society in various ways.

He also stated that with this organization, the demand for separate Karbi Anglong district was made and accordingly United Mikir Hills and NC Hills was created on November 17, 1951 and Council was formed on June 23, 1952.

It is worth mentioning that the organization is purely non-political and its main objective is to bring unity among all Karbis living across the globe irrespective of political affiliation and religion. “We have revived the Dorbar now; its new constitution is prepared and will form its branches in Karbi Anglong and beyond. We welcome members who are interested for the unification of all social organizations for the greater interest for the tribe. Revival of the oldest and strongest organization is the need of the hour, because with this organization creation of new Karbi Anglong (then Mikir Hills) district was achieved.

Foundation Day of this organization is familiarly known as ‘Karbi National Day’ and recognized Vojaru (racket-tailed Drongo) as ‘Karbi National Bird’ and Jambili Athon as ‘Karbi National Symbol’, added Timung.

The meeting was attended by its general secretary, Sing Timung, adviser Chatra Kr. Bey beside students and social organizations leaders.
