12-Hours Bandh Passes Off Peacefully in Karbi Anglong

DIPHU, Feb 11: The twelve hours shutdown called by the All Assam Adivasi Students Association (AASAA) passed off peacefully in the hill districts of Karbi Anglong.

Offices, educational institutions and all shops and business establishments in the district headquarter remained open as usual and no trace of bandh was visible with vehicles and all short distance transports were also seen plying on the roads. Business activities in and around Diphu, Pirbi Market, Rongkhelan and Birla were seen running as usual.

It may be mentioned that bandh call by non-local organizations have never really had no impact inside the district if they are not supported or if the issues are not related with the people of the district. No untoward incident was reported till the filing of this report.

It may be mentioned that the 12-hour Assam bandh was called by the Adivasi students’ organization in demand of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Adivasi community living in Assam.
