Illegal Encroachment on Karbi Anglong Borders Unabated


Eviction Drive soon in KA-Hojai Border Areas Jointly by KAAC and District Administration: CEM

DIPHU, Feb 07: In an effort to secure its border areas and land from illegal encroachment, the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and district administration would be launching eviction drive along the Karbi Anglong-Hojai inter-district border. The decision was taken at a meeting held at the KAAC Secretariat conference hall on Thursday.

The important meeting which commenced at 11.30 am was chaired by KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang was attended by EMs Jagatsing Engti, Amarsing Tisso, Mangal Sing Timung Pradip Rongpi and KAAC principal secretary Mahadananda, Karbi Anglong deputy commissioner Mukul Kumar Saikia and superintendent of police Gaurav Upadhyay, Khitubon Konwar Assistant Director Surveys Ghy, Lanka Revenue CO Ganga Mohon Das, Champak Dutta Assistant to C.O Lanka Revenue, Langka Revenue Circle officer Binud Saikia, DFOs, AROs.

During the meeting several issues related to illegal encroachment and settlements and the various threats posed to the district were highlighted. The KAAC authority and district administration agreed to carry out the joint eviction drive with Hojai District Administration however, no final decision on the dates for eviction could not be taken up due to the absence of Hojai deputy commissioner at the meeting.

As emerged from the discussion, the eviction drive to be carried in Langkaijan and other areas where thousands of suspected and illegal Bangladeshis have occupied huge areas with encroachment going on unabated a very dangerous rate.
