DIPHU, Feb 07: In continuation of its supporti to the statewide rail blockade over Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, the Asom Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Karbi Anglong district committee staged a rail blockade at Diphu Railway station here on Thursday.
The blockade was organized held around 11:30 am. Political parties and organisations of the district also participated in the rail blockade. The AJYCP and other supporting organisations blocked the rail track which was concluded ended at 11.50 a.m. During the demonstration, protesters chanted slogans like ‘Sarbananda Sonowal go back, ‘Himanta Biswa Sarma go back’, ‘Assam Sorkar hai hai’ and ‘Kendriya Sarkar hai hai.’
While interacting with local media, AJYCP- Karbi Anglong District Committee president Jitu Phukon said that protest in the state would continue until the bill is not withdrawn as the indigenous people of Assam can never give land to land to outsiders. “We can give blood, but not land to Hindu Bangladeshis,” Phukon said. He also warned of fiercer agitation in the days to come if the bill is not completely withdrawn.
Autonomous State Demand Committee, Hills State Demand Council, Karbi Students Association, Joint Action Committee for Autonomous State, Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong, Kuki National Assembly, Students & Youth Council and others were the parties and organizations which took part in the rail blockade today.
