BOKAJAN, Jan 23: Illegal business and other activities by mafias inside the hill district of Karbi Anglong continued unabated deflating BJP’s claims and 2014’s election manifesto of wiping out corruption and black money from the country. The latest being the massive felling of precious timbers inside Hidipi-Dillai which are transported out of Karbi Anglong district.
Illegal felling of trees has been going on colossal scale in Dillai, Hidipi and Moiso Killing village under the Eastern Division Bokajan Forest Range under the Bokajan Sub-Division. Sources told TDE, that these timbers are transported out of these areas at night through trucks in huge numbers on daily basis.
“Most of the trucks filled with timbers are transported at night between 12 and 1:00 am in which people from our district are involved. Several VDPs of these areas have seen it with their own eyes,” local villager told TDE.
“It is not possible that these illegal activities are carried out without the knowledge of forest department or state forces. So, what is the use of these forest department or administration if it can’t stop these illegal activities?,” an angry villager vented his anger.
“These are clear evidences that Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) EM in charge of forest and department have failed to discharge their full duties,” the angry villager added.
In fact, activities of mafias are so widespread and massive that common people may not dare to highlight or protest against any of these illegal activities because of the possible involvement of the high and powerful people. The public are now keeping their eyes on what measures the KAAC and district administration would take to stop the dangerous and widespread illegal activities in both the hill districts of Karbi Anglong.
