CHILDLINE Advisory Board (CAB) meeting held in Diphu


DIPHU, Jan 22: CHILDLINE Advisory Board (CAB) of Karbi Anglong was convened atthe Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner Karbi Anglong today at 11:00 AM and was attended by all members of the CAB. The meeting was chaired by DC Karbi Anglong Mukul Ch. Saikia and slideshow presentation on CHILDLINE India and the urgent need of hour in Karbi Anglong was highlighted by Centre Coordinator, Childline Karbi Anglong Bulu Terang.

Sharing the urgent need in Karbi Anglong and briefing out how Childline India came into being Terang said that Childline India is a project of Ministry of Women and Child Development. CHILDLINE India foundation is a non-government organization (NGO) in India that operates a telephone helpline called Childline 1098, for children in distress. It was India’s first 24-hour; toll free, phone outreach service for children. It is based in WorliMumbai.

He also enlightened the members present that CHILDLINE works for the protection of rights of all children aged from 0 to 18. Their special focus is on all children in need of care and protection, especially the more vulnerable sections, that includes Victims of child sexual abuse, Street children and youth living alone on the streets, Child labourers working in the unorganized and organized sectors, Domestic help, especially girl domestics, Children affected by physical / sexual / emotional abuse in family, schools or institutions, Children who need emotional support and guidance, Children of commercial sex workers, Child victims of the flesh trade, Victims of child trafficking and alike.

At the meeting DC Saikia directed the Centre Coordinator to place the annual action plan to be carried out for current year in the next meeting which tentatively will be held in the first week of March 2019.

The members who attended in the meeting includes Mr. Dilip Terang, ACS, ADC i/c Bokajan Sub-Division, Mr. Richard Rongpi, ACS, Deputy Director, P&RD, Diphu, Mr. Rowelson Rongpi, Inspector of Schools, Karbi Anglong, Mr. Reuben Ronghang, Executive Officer, DTC, Mr. TK Lhoujem, Labour Officer, Karbi Anglong, Mr. Utpal Dimasa, DIPRO and others.

It can be mentioned that CHILDLINE 1098 Karbi Anglong has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) formally with CHILDLINE Indian Foundation (CIF) on April 20, 2018 and its office in Karbi Anglong at Jirsong Asong was inaugurated by former DC of Karbi Anglong  Mridul Kr. Mahanta on July 06, 2018. Since then the team under the supervision of Rev. Fr. Tomy Palely, Director CHILDLINE, Karbi Anglong and Jirsong Asong has been ceaselessly working on vulnerable section of children in the district.
