BJP Sweeps Town Committee Elections in Twin Karbi Anglong

The party will work for the development and indigenous rights: Hazarika

DIPHU, Jan 11: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made a clean sweep of the recently held Town Committee election in the two hill districts of Karbi Anglong. The result was declared on January 10, 2019 with BJP 54 out of 64 seats.

Assam State Health Minister Pijush Hazarika after BJP came out with a majority in the last TC election he said that the party will work for the development and indigenous rights of the people of Assam.

“In Karbi Anglong, we have been able to come out with a sweep clean in all the 9 Town Committee elections, winning a total of 54 out of 64 seats. The Congress (I) party has won 4 seats; ASDC won 2 seats and 4 seats by independent candidates. We are always willing and committed to work for the development and indigenous rights of the people of Assam,” Hazarika stated.

On the other hand, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has shown their dissatisfaction over the counting of Town Committee election saying that it was done illegally. “We are not happy with the way the authority has conducted the Town Committee election and counting in Karbi Anglong as we have received lots of complaints from general public of Karbi Anglong. We are happy as we (INC) could grab four seats,” said APCC general secretary Apurba Kumar Bhattacharjee.

Bhattacharjee said that Congress (I) party will form the government of NC Hills after election and the leaders of APCC were fully involved in the campaigning.
