DIPHU, Jan 09: The irate members of Karbi Students Association (KSA) and other organizations in Karbi Anglong on Wednesday has organized mass tonsure programme in Diphu as mark of vehement protest against the BJP led NDA government passing the Bill in the Lok Sabha Tuesday.
The protesters shaved their heads in public and raised their voices in slogan against the BJP government for their anti-secular attitude and trying to dump all the Bangladeshis to the soil of Assam. “We will never allow the BJP policy of Hindi, Hindu, Hindutva to be implemented in the region. We will fight till the ‘facist’party is uprooted from the soil of Karbi Anglong,” said one of the protesters.
Speaking to media, KSA president Simeon Rongphar said that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 should be withdraw or face serious consequences to BJP regime. “We are expecting the Chief Minister of Assam to take a stand and show a strong opinion just like the Chief Minister of Meghalaya and other northeastern states who wasted no time to stand by their own people but to our (people of Assam) surprise he was adamant to the issue,” said Rongphar.
They also call upon all section of people living in Karbi Anglong to protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 as it is a matter of life and dead of the indigenous people of the region.
On the other hand, the Coordination Committee of Tribal Organization, Assam has called the 24 hour Assam bandh on January 11, 2019 from 5:00 AM onwards in protest against the Constitution (Schedule Tribes) Amendment Bill, 2019.
The protest rally was supported by HSDC, AJYCP, KAWJF, KNCA, SYC, KYDO, HYPA, UKYA, SYJ, KYO, KAUPA, ULDC and SSIC.
