ASDC Against Granting of ST (H) Status to Bodos in Hill Districts

DIPHU, Jan 09: The Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) expressed its strong disapproval of the announcement made by the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to grant Scheduled Tribes status to Bodos living in the hills districts of Assam in Lok Sabha on January 8, 2019. This was informed in a press statement issued by its president Holiram Terang here this evening.

Stating that the hills tribes have unequivocally opposed to the move of BJP government since the time the proposal was mooted and said that all hills organizations including the Autonomous council has opposed the proposal.

“The home minister’s announcement has shown the BJP’S utter disdain towards the hills tribes. Such humiliation shall not be tolerated by the 15 hills tribes. If the BJP has any sense of decency and democratic propriety, then it can still refrain from bringing in the proposed constitutional amendment,” the press statement said.

The ASDC also calls upon all the hills tribes in the BJP to express strong resentment over the issue saying that their inability to stop the union government from harming the very existence of the hills tribes would only make the hills’ BJP members unfit to be members in the hills society. Mentioning about the inactivity of MP Birensing Engti, ASDC said that the mum nature seems somewhat like a negative role and is condemnable by everyone.

“This attempt by the BJP led union government to exterminate the hills tribes will not be taken for granted. The BJP shall have to pay a heavy price. The attempt to suffocate will be ultimately thwarted by the hill people and a befitting reply will be given to the BJP,” the press statement concluded.
