DIPHU, Nov 05: Along with the rest of the world, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Karbi Anglong also observed World Soil Day at its premise in Diphu today. This was informed in a press note by KVK-Karbi Anglong Soil Scientist Nilim Kalita here this evening.
The programme which was inaugurated by KVK head Dr Subal Maibangsa was mainly focused on spreading awareness about the importance of soil quality for food security, healthy ecosystem and human wellbeing.
During his address, KVK-Karbi Anglong head expressed concern about the degradation of soil resources due to inappropriate management practices and population pressure over this essential natural resource urging the farming community to care for their soil resources for sustaining its productivity.
In the technical session KVK, Karbi Anglong Soil Scientist Nilim Kalita highlighted on subjects including soil health and sustainable management of soil resources, soil and water conservation in hill agriculture, soil testing and Soil Health Card scheme.
The programme was attended by Regional Agricultural Research Station, Diphu scientist Dr. Utpal Borthakur, Agricultural Officer Karbi Anglong R. Phangcho and participated by fifty progressive farmers of the district.
