Linda Sitlhou crowned Miss Chavang Kut

DIPHU, Nov 05: Along with the rest of the world, the Kuki tribes in Karbi Anglong celebrated its annual harvest festival from October 30 to November 1, 2018, at K. Munpi (Kuki Colony) Amrajan, Bokajan. This was informed by publicity secretary of the organiser David Singson here today.

37th Karbi Anglong District Level Chavang Kut or the autumn post harvest festival was celebrated with great enthusiasm at K. Munpi where thousands of the Kuki community from different parts in Karbi Anglong participates in the festival including leaders of KNA/KSO/KWA/KHRF, villages chiefs, GBs, youths, men and women in the two-day long celebrations with the theme ‘Know thy Roots to Know Thyself.’ During the two day events vibrant folkdance were performed and displayed by various cultural troupes. The thanksgiving festival is also held in display of gratitude to the almighty God (Chung Pathen) for a bountiful harvest with an offering of songs and dances. Pu Tongthang Touthang, Kut-Pa, Pu Dilip Terang Additional DC, Pu JD. Changsan BDO Bokajan, Pu Rahul Sangma General Secretary ST Morcha Bokajan Pu LT Kuki (former president of Kuki Inpi Meghalaya) Pu Lenchon Sitlhou (President International Human Rights Forum), Pu Helen Kipgen (social worker) Pu C. Singson (social worker), CCI Bokajan General Manager Pu Ajit Shukla, PDAK chairman J. Hangsing and PDAK general secretary J. Kipgen graced the festival as the Chief guest & Guest of Honors. Besides,Various invited artists from Manipur and ‘Kamboi Band’ from Guwahati enthralled the audience with mesmerizing songs.

The main attraction of the festival was the MISS KUT 2018 beauty pageant contest. Contestants from different places dressed in their best ethnic attires, walked the ramp. Linda Sitlhou from Diphu Thadou Veng won Miss Chavang Kut title while Chichin Guite and Boishi Changsan were awarded as 1st and 2nd runner-up.

The Chavang Kut Committee expressed their sincere thanks and gratitude to the Diphu Sr. Superintendant of police for providing bus service for the cultural troupe, KAAC EM Amarsing Tisso and KAAC speaker Longki Timung for their supporting and extending their cooperation towards the celebration of Kuki Chavang Kut Festival.
