HAMREN, Oct 09: West Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee (WKADCC) and Chinthong Block Congress Committee (CBCC) jointly submitted a memorandum to Chief Engineer PWD (Roads) Damodar Sarma at his official chamber here on Tuesday.

The memo stated that the KAAC through the department of PWD (roads) have time and again turned their blind eyes to the deplorable road conditions in West Karbi Anglong district and given more importance in Diphu which is biased and unjustified.

They said that the NEC road that connects between Hamren Town Committee Ward No. 6 to Langkar-om should be completed before the end of December this year.

Speaking to the media persons, WKADCC President Sarthe Kramsa stated that the bad road condition has caused undue suffering to the people in West Karbi Anglong district including its subway inside Hamren town. “The road needs to be completed as early as possible and the PWD(R) should repair all the deplorable roads in the town,” said Kramsa.

Meanwhile, strong resentment was witnessed among the socially conscious section of people and WKADCC following poor quality work and incomplete construction of the NEC project in West Karbi Anglong. The people, it may be mentioned, have been suffering a lot since long due to dismal condition of the NEC road. Though NEC was engaged for construction of more than 27 km stretch from NEC Iron Bridge to Rongchek, it is alleged that the company has inadequate infrastructure and manpower, besides lack of determination, left the constructions work with unknown reason.

A section of the locals also alleged that NEC failed to construct even 50% of the total allotted works. Not only that the quality of the completed NEC road was so poor that now it starts scraping off the upper layer of the road and led to deplorable condition.

“Due to poor road condition, frequent accidents were seen in the area and till date numbers of lives were claimed. Various local organisations in the meantime had taken agitation programmes like road blockade and submission of memorandums to concern authorities but to no avail.

The WKDCC warn the government that if their demand was not fulfilled within the stipulated time then they would be compelled to take strong agitation and the government should take full responsible. The mass memorandum submission was also attended by VP Welson Teron President CBCC Anthony Teron, President Socheng Mondal Congress Longwell Phangchol and General Secretary Administrative Socheng Mondal Congress Committee Gladstone Tisso and others.
