UPLA agrees to explore the path of peace



BOKAJAN, Aug 13: The United People’s Liberation Army (UPLA), an underground outfit formed in 2013 has decided to take the path of peace and democratic way to fulfil the long standing political demands of people of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao. This was stated in a press communiqué jointly signed by its Chairman, Joint Secretary i/c Home affair and Joint Secretary i/c Publicity on Tuesday.

Announcing this, Chairman of the outfit Sorjon Lo-eh said that we were inspired by Sri Sri Shankarji and positive intervention of the Assam Chief Minister and later Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Tuliram Ronghang and his council members we have decided to explore democratic means of meeting our long-standing political demand. “We have agreed to suspend our armed struggle and declared a ceasefire with the state and the central government and explore the path of development and prosperity. We also hope that all the concerned parties will seize this opportunity for peace and work to fulfil the legitimate demand and aspiration of the people of hill districts, “he added.

He also said that they have appeal all political parties, social organizations and other Karbi militant group  which are under ceasefire to stand in a common platform and work together for fulfilment of long standing political demand and to find solutions for the larger interest of the people in the hill districts.

Gurudev Sri Sri Shankar’s vision has inspired us to look for democracy ways of fulfilling the aspirations of Karbi Anglong people. He emissary and guiding us to come to the mainstream and inspired us to see our demand with a bigger and long-term vision,” said in their statement.
