AASU-Diphu unit stir over shoddy repairing Dharamnala area PWD road

To halt repairing work until official clarification is made

DIPHU, April 04: All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) Diphu Regional Students’ Union today send their delegation team to the Deputy Commissioner to register their complaints over the shoddy repairing work of the PWD road from Shiv Mandir to Singhason hotel and from Dharamnala to Binapani area at the heart of Diphu town.

DC Mridul Kumar Mahanta who accepted the memorandum said that the district administration have responsibility in maintaining, supervise and to carry out national highway but the PWD Department is directly under the administration of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) but assured to take up the matter and to extend all possible assistance under his capacity.

The memorandum was submitted by AASU- Diphu Regional Students’ Union secretary Shorjun Hanse along with members. “The memorandum was submitted by the students’ organization following the detection of the extremely shoddy work on Tuesday. We decided to stop the repairing work as it was a blatant breach of construction guidelines. Bitumen were directly poured on the existing road without any work being done on the top of the surface and therefore this is a matter of great concern and therefore we decided to stop the work because this is a public road. The current repairing work if allowed then it will not be able to support flat normal load and will get damaged in a matter of few days,” Hanse added.

We will not allow the construction work until we receive official statement and clarification from the concerned department and authority,” stated the organization leader.
