Submits memorandum to DC
DIPHU, Mar 22: With no indication any relief coming the Assam University Diphu Campus Students’ Union (AUDCSU) and Diphu B.Ed. College Students’ Union (DBCSU) submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Mridul Mahanta in demand for immediate resumption of construction of National Highway-329. This was stated in a press statement issued jointly by AUDCSU president Robinson Taro and general secretary Sarkangthim Rongpi, DBCSU general secretary Jirsong Taro and vice president Dhoniram Dera here today.
The students’ union has expressed immense disappointment and resentment over halting construction work of National Highway-329 stating that it is prolonging the sufferings of the common people and students’ in particular. The students’ union said that Simplex Infrastructures Limited has again halted the construction work that was carried out in full swing under the DC Adil Khan’s term following his direction after the students’ union demanded for its immediate construction.
The demands of the students’ union include immediate completion of the NH-329 road from PWD office to Arboretum Park, necessary action against the construction company for delay and flouting the guidelines and also to erect street lights along the road from GNM Nursing Training Institute to Assam University Diphu Campus Students’ Union at the earliest.
The students’ union informed that DC Mridul Mahanta assured them to discuss the issue with the construction company along with DFO and Additional SP.
The students’ union informed that the student’s union had met erstwhile DC Adil Khan on February 8 on the same issue and the construction work was carried out following the meeting but was halted immediately after his transfer.
It may be mentioned that Simplex Infrastructures Limited which has earned the reputation for delaying work and third grade quality road in Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong is in the limelight again for halting construction of NH-329 from PWD Colony Lumding Road towards AUDC.
