Dima Hasao DCC Against Scrapping of Article 244 (A) of the Indian Constitution

HALFLONG, Jan 5: The Dima Hasao District Congress Committee (DHDCC) on Friday strongly condemned the state government initiative to scrap Article 244 (A) of the Indian Constitution. This was stated in a press meet convened by the DCC General Secretary Kalijoy Segyung, Depolal Hojai and DCC Vice President Obastring Pachuan.

Addressing media person leaders of DCC Dima Hasao strongly condemned on the statement of the State Government and the Union Government that at present there is no any proposal to create separate state within Assam, rather to scrap the Article 244 (A) of the Indian Constitution. This was disclose by Union Home Minister Kiren Rijiju in reply to the question put by MP (RS) Biswajit Daimary that it is unlawful to create Autonomous State within State of Assam without implementation of Article 244 (A) of the Indian Constitution. It was published on January 2, 2018 in some local newspaper.

DHDCC vice-president Depolal Hojai told the media persons that the party will intensify its peaceful agitation programmes from tomorrow against the government for such undesirable move but instead will pressurize the government for immediate implementation of Article 244 (A) of the Indian constitution.

He also urged all the political parties, NGOs, Students organization and all general public of both Dima Hasao & Karbi Anglong to oppose and raise their voices against such move to abolish the article 244 (A) of the Indian Constitution by the Union Government. He further added that Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong hills districts favoured to remain in Assam during separation of Meghalaya and be should equally be developed with all facilities but at present the regions have a limited educational institutions and others facilities as promises by the state government.

Other hand the DHDCC will also submit a memorandum citing the issue to the INC president Rahul Gandhi and Union Home Minister for State Kiren Rijiju to look into the matter.
