3rd Edition of Judima Festival Begins

HAFLONG, Dec 28: The 3rd edition of 2 day long Judima Festival have begun today at Dibarai High School playground, Haflong organized jointly by the Judima Festival Celebration Committee, Haflong and Youth Association for Development and Empowerment (YADEM), Dibarai Village Committee and Dibarai Mahila Samity, Haflong.

Today’s inaugural programme was attended by chief guest NCHAC CEM Debolal Gorlosa along with other guest of honour Dima Hasao DC Deva Jyoti Hazarika, 43 Assam Rifle Commandant Gagan Pandey, Major Shailendra Yadav; EM Kulendra Daulagupu, MAC Ngamrothang Hmar, chairperson Ranu Langthasa and other dignitaries.

Each guest in their speech appreciated the organizer and hope for more and more tourist visit in the coming future in Dima Hasao through the festival. On the day Dimasa Traditional dance and other different tribal community have showcased their colorful traditional dance apart from stalls of various crafts and ethnic food. The festival is organized mainly to explore the vast tourism and rich cultural heritage of the Dima Hasao district.

Bankim Phonglo, spokesman and media host in his speech highlighted the main objective of the festival that “JUDIMA” a local traditional brew of the Dimasas which has unique taste, and holds a very important role in Dimasa community from child birth till death. It has been the effort of the organizers to promote community tourism so that local people are mostly benefitted by outsiders getting opportunities to have a glimpse into the traditional life of the people here. The main objective of the program is not only to promote Judima but also to highlight all the age old traditional culture of the Dimasa community.

As part of the festival a rock concert was held at DSA ground from 4:00 pm onward where several local artists and bands performed. Various adventure events like Borail mountain trekking, heritage trek at an abandoned metre-gauge railway track, sightseeing, zorbing ball, home stay etc. had also started from today.

The multi facet festival is included with events like trekking, cycling, heritage walk, home stay, sightseeing in and around Haflong town, beside display of colorful cultural program of different community and tribes apart from western bonanza, seminar, workshop, traditional sports including exhibition cum sell stalls of handloom, handicraft items and one can enjoy the ethnic foods of various communities residing in Dima Hasao district are few attraction to mention in the festival.
