PDCK/WESEA Calls for a Total 12 Hrs Shutdown on Aug 15, Call to Resist the ‘Forceful Occupation of the Mainland Indian Regime’

Diphu, August 11: The Western Southeast Asia (WESEA) has called for 12-hour total shutdown on India’s Independence Day on August 15, 2017. The call for total ban was informed through a statement dated August 10, 2017 by PDCK Home Secretary Mir Ang Sir Ang which was jointly signed by HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongraw, KCP president Ksh Laba Meitei, KLO chairman Jiban Singh Koch, KYKL chairman N. Oken, NDFB organizing secretary B. R. Ferengga, NLFT organizing secretary Sengphui Borok and PDCK chairman J.K. Lijang.

Western Southeast Asia (WESEA), an alliance of militant groups comprising of Hynniutrep National liberation Council (HNLC), Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), Kamatapur Liberation Organization (KLO), Kanglei Yawol kanna Lup (KYKL), National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB), National Liberation Front Twipra (NLFT) and People’s Democratic Council of Karbilongri (PDCK) through the statement said the total ban or shutdown has been called to protest the ‘forceful occupation of the mainland Indian regime’ of Northeast India, Bhutan, North Bengal and Myanmar or the WESEA region.

In its long statement, WESEA stated that there is not, and never was an India but was only a ‘mere geographical expression’ and that Colonialism is the real mother of present Indian State. The group also stated that ‘new nation’ or the present India was constructed by Indian scholars as part of what Sudipta Kaviraj called ‘the imaginary institutions of India.’ “The past was restructured to shape the present and consequently, the future,” said the statement.

The group further charged that the entire WESEA region has been subjected to forceful occupation of the mainland Indian regime through uncivilized and sometimes through ‘inhuman tools.’ WESEA further said, “Logical consequence of this nation-making process is total assimilation of the rim-land non-Indians like us, the Weseans. Assimilation is nothing but collective death of assimilated communities.”

The alliance group further said, “To perform this jingoistic task, the present Indian establishment uses both violent and non-violent actions. The present-day descendants of Gandhi have no qualms in using the ultimate forms of violence like annexation of new territories, state-terrorism under AFSPA, collective fine, rape with immunity etc. But Gandhi hated violent nationalism and termed it a ‘curse’. To reinforce their hegemony over the peripheral non-Indians, in addition to the hard violent tools, they use soft ones like education, mass media, films, literature, arts and culture, and symbolic instruments like the national flag, national anthems, observation of national days, celebration of national festivals, ritual obeisance to national heroes etc. The objective is to manufacture consent of the subjugated peoples in an easier way, in order to facilitate assimilation, or in reality, ethnocide of the rim-land nations. It is almost impossible to achieve this objective through violence and with other hard tools.”

“Observation of Indian Independence Day, which falls on the 15th August, is one of such symbolic instruments, sacred and unassailable for mainland Indians, but vicious and malicious to the colonized peripheral non-Indians. Celebration of such occasions can create a false consciousness of enjoying political freedom in the minds of subjugated people,” declared the group.

“To resist Indian occupation and hegemony, almost all communities of this WESEA region have risen up in arms and armed struggle is still going on. As a part of this continuing resistance struggle, we, the undersigned representatives of our respective revolutionary organizations, declare to ban India’s Independence Day celebrations in our WESEA region. In order to successfully materialize the same declaration, we call for total shut-down of the entire region for 12 hours, that is, from 6 AM to 6 PM of the day, the 15th August, 2017. We call upon all peoples of this subjugated region to do the needful to make this ban a success,” concluded the statement.
