Diphu, Aug 7: Several students’ organizations today blocked NH 39 for 2 hours between 11 am to 1:00 pm to protest against the non-renovation of the said road for more than 3 years.
Organizations which include Students & Youth Council (SYC), Karbi Students’ Association (KSA), Assam Jatiyabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU), Adivasi Tea Tribe Students’ Union (ATTSU) came together to the streets and blocked the Asian Highway 39 at Santipur-Khakrajan area for 2 hours, affecting normal life.
While interacting with the protesters, SYC convenor Maugham Engleng stated that the condition of NH 39 has become so appalling that they are forced to come to the streets.
“Everyone including the Government and authority of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) knew about the appalling road condition of NH 39 and has become hazardous for commuters, but they choose to neglect and remained mum. Looks like they are waiting for us to protest over the issue, so here we are,” the protestors stated.
Attacking the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the protestors stated that their parivartan should not only be in words but they should turn their words into action.
The students’ organizations also submitted a memorandum to Bokajan Transport Minister through Bokajan Magistrate in the later part of the day. No casualty was reported and the 2 hour blockade passed off peacefully, reports added.
