Diphu, Aug 3: On the day of the official announcement of portfolios to the recently declared Executive Members (EMs) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), the 24+ has reiterated its stand for the protection of the Sixth Schedule and has demanded that secretaries and personal assistants of the newly appointed EM should be only from the STs only. This was informed through a press note here this evening.
The press note jointly signed by UKSA president Ratan Terang, KARAA general secretary Dhonsing Ronghang, SSIC president Samson Teron and PFP secretary Gulson Bey said that the matter of contesting in the election of the KAAC and government nomination of the MACs to the KAAC remain the core issues for which the 24+ organizations have been fighting in Guwahati High Court.
The 24+ organizations have reiterated its demand and stand that only ST (H) persons must be allowed to contest in the KAAC election and the Government must nominate MACs from the ST (H) community only as per the criteria mentioned in Paragraph 20 of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India.
Further, the organizations has pointed that the matter of appointment of private secretaries and personal assistants to the officers and elected representatives of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) is a very important matter. “Because the Private Secretaries and Personal Assistants are the media between the officers, the elected representatives and the public. And they handle all confidential matters for the protection and development of the Schedule Tribes,” said the press statement.
The 24+ organizations concluded its press statement with the demand that all private secretaries and personal assistants must be only from the scheduled tribes.
