Correspondent; Umlapher, Jun 25: An awareness programme on promoting Self Help Group (SHG), Concept for credit accessibility in rural areas was held at Langtui L. P. School, Umtlieh, a village bordering Meghalaya on June 24.
The programme was organized by KACRMS, Hamren under IFAD project under the aegis of NEC/DONER, Government of India. James Ingti and secretary of Angkor SHG from Umpanai Cluster were the resource persons during the training session. Around 70 SHG leaders from the neighboring villages participated in the program. According to information, 70 SHGs from poor village areas will be adopted by KACRMS, Hamren. They also informed that the main purpose of holding the programme was to motivate and sensitize the participants about the importance of rural development through SHG model which is accepted and recognized by all Financial Institutions over the country.
“Besides financial institutions, other government departments are also working hand in hand with the SHGs. Even NGOs in West Karbi Anglong are trying their best efforts to nurture the women as collaborators. The NGOs are preparing them for the next NERCOM project so that poor people who are deprived of government welfare schemes especially in the underdeveloped regions of Meghalaya border and upper Chinthong areas will not suffer further,” KACRMS leaders stated.
The authority also mentioned that the next awareness campaign will be held at Umlaper on July 5, 2017 with more number of participants and wide coverage of topics related with income generating activities.
