Authority Declares ‘Dry Day’ During KAAC Election 2017


Diphu, Jun 13: In view of the ensuing KAAC election, the district administration prohibit the possession of any intoxicants by any person or group of persons and ban sale, giving or distribution of spirituous, fermented or intoxicating liquors or other substances of alike nature at a hotel, tavern, shop or any other places falling under Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) administrative jurisdiction, official sources said.

The following dates June 16 & 17 and 22, 2017, the previous poll day, polling day and counting day are declared as ‘dry day’. “All bonded warehouse, IMFL retail ‘off’ and ‘on’ shop including club on, hotel on, and country spirit shops will remain closed during the dry days. Sale of liquor in adjoining areas of the concern polling station areas are also prohibited by the authority. Any violation of the order shall be dealt with under the relevant provision of Assam Excise Act and Rules,” informed the authority.
