KSA & SYC Questions KAAC on Illegal Mining in Singhason and Borjan Areas

Diphu, Apr 3: The Karbi Students’ Association (Simeon) and Students’ and Youth Council (SYC) said the silence of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) over the illegal mining and smuggling of coal in Singhason and Borjan areas which indicated nexus between some executive members and the coal mafia, said the organizations.

The organizations lambasted the KAAC leaders of becoming mute spectators to the facts of illegal mining and rampant smuggling in Singhason and Borjan areas. ‘Their silence and inaction over the issue, despite being exposed and brought out before electronic and local media, would make the public to believe that they area also involved in these illegal activities,’ added the statement.

The organizations have questioned KAAC EM Prodip Singnar, EM Longki Timung, MLA Sum Ronghang and MLA Dr. Numal Momin saying that their silence over the matter is responsible for the environmental degradation and suffering of the people.

“We urged the concerned authorities to take immediate action against those involved in free smuggling of forest wealth at the earliest if not we will be compelled to blockade the transportation and even will approach the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for stern action,” warned the organizations.
